Decisions Decisions...

I just came across this article about New Years at Times Square in NYC.

In case you didn't know: We're spending new year's in NYC!

well, more like we're spending New Years in Brooklyn, but you know, it's just a train ride away (manhattan prices were astronomical).

It's the last vacation Ryan and I can take together before I finish school (fingers crossed), and since he 'won' the New Years holiday, we figured we might as well go to the city (in hindsight, I'm thinking a trip to the Caribbean would have been better...but then again, me in a bathing suit right now...it's a toss up)

Part of me WANTS to be a part of the festivities in Times Square...I was going to don some fake eyelashes & a fun hat that I found a few weeks ago at the mall. It's one of those, "I'd love to tell my grandkids about it in 50 years" (I'm not even thinking of having children in the near future-where are these grandkids coming from?!)

But I don't know about the pig herding....and the more important peeing & weather part.....pig herding, incredibly memories...

OR, there's THIS

I'm up for it. Sure it's 4 mi. Sure I haven't ran 4 mi since spring, but it's a fun run, not a race.

And I can still wear some fake eyelashes and a fun hat. And what better way to start new years resolutions?

My mother says to just stay at the hotel and watch the ball drop on TV. I say you don't go to NYC during New Years to spend New Years in the hotel room.

Ryan says, "I haven't ran in a while. There's no way I'm running." I say it's a FUN RUN.

What do you think? Frances, Traci...I'm looking for answers.....

READY!

Getting ready for tomorrow night's bookclub that I'm hosting and I think I've figured out what to make!

Yogurt-Braised Chicken with Cashews & Raisins

Herbed Basmati Rice

Glazed Carrots

Salad (baby spinach, cheese, tomatos, croutons, etc)

and....

probably CUPCAKES from Sweet & Sassy. (not sure which kind though...coconut or red velvet?)

The last think my butt needs is a cupcake.

But back to dinner: We read A Thousand Splendid Suns and I wanted to try and do a themed dinner...but who knows how to make Afghan food? India will have to do (chicken recipe is supposedly Indian).

I've never made basmati rice...if I chicken out (heh) I'll make traditional cuban rice (an indian-cuban dish. this must be the result of a polish-lithuanian-cuban-american heritage -and don't even start with the religion upbringing).

And I've never made glazed carrots before. Come to think of it, I've never cooked carrots (opening the bag and steaming them does not count).

This might be a bad idea. At least there's those premade pastas that cook in 5-8 minutes if disaster strikes...

LOST

1, blogging mojo.

Looks like: random words, strung together to form coherent sentences.
Last seen: pre Thanksgiving

2. study habits.

Looks like: mousy girl at table with nose in books, mouthing words to herself (note: mousy girl is not actually talking to herself).
Last seen: October

3. want-a-be-cook

Looks like: mousy girl, cursing in the kitchen and making a gigantic mess, but having fun saying, MMMMMM, ohMMMMMM while eating (unless of course the meal was very bad, then she was cursing while throwing everything in the trash).
Last seen: April....in Charleston...before The Move.

4. jogger

Looks like: mousy girl, hair in ponytail, looks as if she's dying but really having fun. Really.
Last seen: hard to say....made a few appearances in the summer of 2007. Has not been seen since the weather high failed to hit 65* AND fog rolled in.

The missing blogger/studier/cook/jogger has since gained weight and is beginning to resemble her original college self.

This is a bad thing.

A Very Bad Thing.

Send motivation this way.

So he's in the closet...

I always knew there was something funny about this cat. He's always followed Ryan. Sat on Ryan's lap. And he's always had a thing for shoes (the cat rubs Ryan's shoes everyday when he comes home).

I've always said the cat is gay.

Tonight, while brushing my teeth, I found the cat in the closet. Laying on my jeans.

The Husband Went to Boston and all I got was...

MEASURING CUPS!

I saw these a couple of months ago on a knitter's website and fell madly in love. I think I remember calling the husband at work to tell him about these measuring cups.

Ryan was in up in Boston for a few days and walking around with the guys when he saw Anthropologie.

"Anthropologie...anthropologie...why do I know that name?" (thought Ryan in Boston)

He went in while the others waited outside....and then followed the guys to a bar with a bag of duckie measuring cups :)

Says Ryan: "This is proof that I listen to you."

Scenes from last night's photo shoot (anything to avoid studying...) (Frances-no worries...I didn't take any pictures of food....)

This makes me think they are singing and going to bop their little heads the other way...a la Hanson's...mmmm bop...or maybe the Partridge Family....
Now if only I knew how to bake...

Style in a Jiffy

Either I've been deprived my entire car owning life (heh), or DE does a few things right.

Went to Jiffy Lube yesterday and was prepared to sit myself in a corner with my nose deep in a book but...

they had the October issue of Elle.

and the November issue of InStyle.

no car magazines. no grimy coffee machine.

I didn't want to leave and considered getting my tires rotated so I could read up on Reese & Jessica.

Honestly. Things like that only exist in lifetime movies.
