Fingers & Toes

MUST BE CROSSED FOR THE NEXT 42-45 HOURS.

If you are you a close friend, a 7th degree friend, or one of those lurkers, please, pretty please, keep those fingers & toes crossed. And don't forget to send good vibes our way.

I'll tell you why later.

Transitions

Isn't there supposed some sort of transition between summer and winter?

I know, most people call it fall, but honestly, I didn't think fall meant the heat had to be turned on and winter clothes dug out. On Monday the outfit included sandals & a tank top. And the A/C was on. It was so warm that I took Ryan's truck to class because the a/c in my car decided to poop out.

You would think we would gradually work our way into winter fall.

But no. As of yesterday the wardrobe has changed to jeans, socks, love sleeve tee, hoodie zipped all the way up. I just needsome fingerless gloves for the hands.

the only benefit that comes with this weather? I don't have to worry about repainting my toe nails.

A Letter

Dear Teacher:

As you know, Monday night we took your first exam. Today is Thursday. I would appreciate it if you would post grades in a timely manner. I realize you have other classes and priorities (including research on addiction), but how difficult is it to run the scantron through the machine, record the grades, and post online? I realize I probably failed your exam as I am one of the many who come to class having watched the wrong lecture on CD-ROM. I'm still trying to figure out how the lectures correspond to the chapters from the text (and why you tell us which lectures are no longer part of the course a week after they were to be watched according to the syllabus you posted on Web-CT).

And another thing. Why is it that every week in class there is some sort of sexual example used to teach a concept? Unless you are completing research with those guys from the University of Texas, I don't understand what sex has to do with research (your most recent example given during a test review which wasn't formally announced to the class and only told to a select few who went on to tell others like myself). I believe Monday's example went something like this, "And an example of deductive reasoning would be that, OK, let's say everyone in this room is going to have sex with each other, I believe that only the females will get pregnant."

As for your research on addiction, I am becoming increasingly addicted to the Internet as I now log on to Web-CT on a near hourly basis with the hope that my grade, however horrible, is posted.

Sincerely,
Web-CT Addict

Renoir & the King of Prussia

Last night, Ryan and I hastly ordered tickets to the Renoir Landscapes exhibit at the Philly Museum of Art. If you're in the area, I definitely recommend buying tickets, pricey, but if manage to schedule the exhibit on a day with a lecture, you can make it a bargain.

There must have been at least 40 works of Renoirs-the exhibit started kind of slow with some history, but it kept getting better to the point that Ryan and I were looking at paintings and saying, "Oh, Wow." The man was a genius.

Little known fact: Towards the last 15 years of his life, Renoir suffered from rheumatoid arthritis so severely that family members and assistants had to literally fix the brushers to his hands in order to continue painting (the more I think about this, i remember learning about rheumatoid arthritis & the development of Herbedeen's (sp) nodes that develop on the fingers..very painful.)
"Bend something or other" -Renoir...this painting wasn't part of the exhibit, but WAS in the museum.

Some more from the Philadelphia Museum of Art:

AFTER the museum though was King of Prussia. King of Prussia was a mall I first learned about when I originally began my subscription to Vogue: late middle/early high school (style-nerd). I always figured it was right up there with Bal Harbour & Rodeo Drive.

King of Prussia mall is really TWO malls connectd by a covered walkway. Two Macys (one for each portion of the mall). Two Teavanas. Two Starbucks. Hermes (!!), Furla (!), Bloomingdales, Needless Markup Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom (!), Pottery Barn, Restoration Hardware, WILLIAMS SONOMA HOME, Ethan Allen, Urban Outfitters, etc.

I didn't hit all the stores...we only had about 2 hours to eat, tour and "shop" before heading back home for the Gator Game (which I should be watching, but after last week's game, and the Yankees games, I'm obviously bad luck for favorite teams). I never found Williams Sonoma Home, but I KNOW it's there. The mall has it's own map and nice little old men to serve as 'docents' if needed (ok, not docents. guides to help if you get lost).

Oh, and as for Macy's? (the only department store we went in due to time) Let's just say Ryan is in trouble (as if you haven't already figure that out...)

Bravery

Today I did something I've never done.

I got a blind haircut.

No, I didn't cut my hair blindfolded, and no, a blind person did not cut my hair.

A blind haircut, as I'm defining it, is picking a salon and stylist without any sort of a referral.

Ok, so I'm not going to be getting a medal of honor for going through this feat, but still, if you've seen the haircuts in Delaware, you would understand.

It's not fair. When we were at the AF/NAVY game this weekend I saw a ton of women with good haircuts. But here in Delaware? Nothing.

First let's talk color. I've never colored my hair for the sheer reasoning being that most blondes look like fake blondes. and i'm too cheap to pay to get my hair colored every 4-6 weeks. this actually works in my favor because the blondes up here are actually 'yellows.' Honestly, if you could take a canary color from a box of crayola, you would know how blonde is done here.

Now on to the more important cut. every cut I've seen here has been full of choppy layers. I don't like choppy layers. Layers are supposed to blend. Also, what's with the asymmetrical cuts? I don't think the hair on the left side of your head should be 2 inches shorter than the hair on the right side of your head. I honestly can't say if the choppy, angular layer look is exclusive to the area or part of the, "80s punk, screw how I look" fashion that is taking over right now (when will black skinny jeans go away?!).

So the haircut. I showed the woman pictures of what I like and what I don't like. I stressed my views on blended layers & choppy layers. I told the woman i like layers (never did I say I like a lot of layers).

So how did it turn out? The haircut reminds me of a cross between:

and

yes. I know. I'm not sure what exactly to make of it.

I'm really not enjoying the longer section in the back...maybe if she cut that section another inch I would be happier. Eh, at least it grows back. Thank goodness for hair ties :)

Can U Canoe?

Ryan & Rachel Canoe!

YEY for nature and the great outdoors! Ryan & I spent a lazy Sunday at the park where we paddled, enjoyed nature, picnicked, and 'hiked.' (hiked is used loosely here).

Saturday was spent at the AirForce/Navy football game in Annapolis followed by a pathetic Gator game. The Gators deserved to lose.

Pictures of the AirForce/Navy game to follow (internet seems to be slllooow).
