Hocked on fonics didnt rok 4 me

When I left South Carolina, I thought I was through dealing with incompetent 'eduaucrats.' (educator + bureaucrat= educrat)

One of the first two courses I will be taking for the nursing program at UD is Research Concepts in Healthcare.

Now there is the very real possibility I will have to take a basic, generic, freshman course titled, "Critical Reading & Writing" because my ENC 1101 course did not transfer. There is an appeal process, which I'm starting now, but in order to appeal the course, I need to submit coursework from my ENC 1101 class (which was taken in 1997).

Seriously, who has course work from a basic course like ENG 101?? Does anyone even own the same computer they had in 1997??

They expect me to take Research Concepts AND 'critical reading & writing??'

I'm trying NOT to be a smart ass here, but if I have a degree, and was accepted into an accelerated program, is there any doubt in my ability to read for understanding?

Is there any reason why I shouldn't crack right about now???

NY Pictures

Really, they are here...but not all of them because lately I seem to have the attention span of a gnat and couldn't stand sitting at the computer, saving them to the pc, resizing the pictures...resaving....uploading...in other words, I have a major case of the LAZIES.

from Brooklyn
Subway life

Proof that there's beauty in The City
and rats. Beautiful Sunsets and Rats.

There's another photo lurking in the camera of Grom, on Broadway and 77th, I think...the gelato was worth the wait, but not nearly as much as seeing a sign in their store that advertises their use of "...biological eggs..."

Is there another sort of egg? am I missing something here??? are there virtual eggs?

Update

Seriously, I am in the process of transferring pictures from the camera to the pc and will FINALLY post pictures from NY and then will take pictures of the new place...With the exception of a few pictures that are still on the floor looking for a good home on the wall, the downstairs is DONE, thanks to IKEA and a great set of parents :)

A Glimpse...

Welcome to a week in our lives & expereinces in Delaware:

Friday, June 29th (the friday before the 4th of July): Verizon is supposed to set up services (telephone, TV, internet). The technician comes to the door, gets to work, and an hour later says, "Mam, I've run into some problems. See, the box at the end of the street is full. I'm going to try and get a hold of my boss and a team of engineers to...balbhalbhalbha'

An other hour goes by: Well mam, I haven't been able to get a hold of anyone. In the meantime, I've figured out a way to wire your house. It will be a challenge, but that's ok, I like challenges. An enginnering team will be here Monday and I'll get you taken care of first thing.

Monday, July 2nd; 2:30pm: a young guy knocks on the door. It's Verizon..but NOT the original little old man. I explain Friday's events. He looks at me as if I'm from Mars. After explaining what needs to be done, we walk outside, he looks at the house and says, "This is gonna suck."

And since I haven't exactly been the nicest person to be around lately, I go off on a tirade.: "I don't understand. Am I the ONLY person in this neigborhood of stucco townhomes that is getting Verizon Fios?! Is it really going to be such a problem??"

Monday July 2nd: continued: The guy gets engineering out to fix the aforementioned problem (full box?), except by the time they fix problem number one, it's too late to start problem number 2 (setting up service).

Tuesday July 3rd: MOVERS!
Wednesday July 4th: 4th of July!
Thursday July 5th: Verizon lady knocks on the door. Has no idea of previous calls, BUT manages to get the job done. YAY! I have internet in my house! I have TV...AND I have a land line!

Saturday July 7th: the computer dies (see previous posts about dying computer)

Sunday July 8th...morning: TV dies while listenign to a segment of the CBS Morining Show on sound in the movies. It took me a full 15 minutes to realize the TV died-not that there was an extra long sement on what a movie looks like without sound (in my defense, I was in the kitchen cleaning up and only listening, not watching, TV).

Sunday July 8th: Head to Best Buy. Can't take the noise, crowd, & kids playing on computers that are looking for new owners. Leave Best Buy. Search for Circuit City. Call Circuit City. Ciruit City girl either:
a. has not lived in DE very long
b. can not give directions

Ryan says, "Are we in South Carolina?"
15 minutes later we have directions to Circuit City

Sunday July 8th: After finding a computer we like, I try to catch the eye of at least one of the 4 computer technicians working at Circuit City. You know tech guys are weird when:
1. they have a green plastic earring in their ear.
2. you see their boxers
3. All four are working together one one computer and giggling like school boys and making up songs on the spot
4. a smiling, (ok, bitchy looking but STILL smiling female) (me) can't catch their attention

Monday July 9th: pick up new bedrails. put together new bedrails. cry over bed that is sitting only 4 1/2 inches off the ground.

Tuesday July 10th: realize advantage of low bed: I feel tall...very very tall. Posture improves as I try to stand even taller!

Wednesday July 11th: New Computer suddently will not connect to internet

Wednesday July 11th: Spend time waiting for a tech at Verizon Wireless. Tech informs me that the problem is with computer, not internet.

Wednesday July 11th: Spend a combined 77 minutes, 2 seconds on hold and sorting out computer details with computer's tech support line.

And you wonder why I don't like moving...

Moving Bed Rails

When moving, if you find extra unused bed rails in your house, don't take them.

I insisted on taking the set of bedrails I found in the attic space, and when the movers put our bed together, there was quite a few inches of rails extending beyond the end of the mattress (not to mention 4 unused rails sitting on the floor).

Naturally we took the bedrails apart and tried to use the other set of bedrails. Within minutes, both sets of bedrails were mixed and after an hour, we concluded there MUST have been a missing piece, so we threw out all of our bedrails.

And then I did another 'oh shit' thing. I ordered bedrails...I described the headboard/footboard to the mattress guy (this was all done over the phone). When asked if I wanted lo or hi profile rails, I measured how high off the ground the lowest & highest holes of the headboard (which are used for bolting the rails).

"Well, then you will need lo-profile rails."

Had I known at the time that a lo-profile bedrail would only lift my bed 4 1/2 inches off the ground, I wouldn't be writing about this.

The cat doesn't even fit under the bed.

boxes

I hate them. If I see another, I think I'll curl myself into the box, close the lid, and cry.

We Made It!

Not only are we in the new place, but...

We have furniture (a couch!!). The movers pulled up Tuesday at 8:20am...a flatbed truck with 8 crates & a forklift. Good news: My piano arrived in one piece, horribly out of tune, but at least it's here. Bad news: the only piece of furniture that is truly broken is a dining room chair. It was the dining room chair that had a really wobbly leg (so wobbly that I wouldn't let people sit on it). Good news: The chair leg was delivered with the chair, so hopefully I can fix it. Even if I can't, the dining room set only cost a mere $99 at the thrift store.

We also FINALLY got phone/internet/cable service.

The bad news? The computer is on its deathbed. Ryan's oldest brother left a voicemail the other day saying, "Hey guys, blabhalbha, my computer died and Justin's computer died this week. I know you guys have the same computer, so back up your files!."

Our computer hasn't been connected to the internet since we were in Charleston (about 2 1/2 months now). Still, I turned on the computer, only to hear "beepbeepbeepbeepbeepbeep" Hitting f2 helped, but even the Verizon lady said something was wrong with our computer. So now we're scared to shut off the computer.

But otherwise, things are finally starting to look up!
